Project Discovery WWII Japanese Tunnels: Target Lafe Hill
A sunny Sunday morning led us for a field survey of the Japanese WWII tunnels of Lafe Hill; one of the several nose-ridges overlooking the main MacArthur highway north of Mabalacat and south of Bamban .
Photographs in February 1945 taken by 40th Division U.S. Army shows the slope of Lafe Hill pock-marked with numerous war tunnels occupied by the Okamoto Butai; the 132nd Airfield Battalion, Kembu Group originally stationed at nearby Mabalacat East Airfield.
Almost 80 years since the war ended, most of these war tunnels are sealed by erosion and probably to some extent, human activity. Gathering field data of what remains of these war tunnels is important documentation.
